
Filmmaker Bernardo Ruiz works on both sides of the narrative/documentary border. He has been awarded grants from ITVS, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the Paul Robeson Fund for Independent Media, Latino Public Broadcasting, as well as a New York Foundation on the Arts fellowship.
He has written and produced non-fiction programming for PBS, the Discovery Networks, MTV and the National Geographic Channel. He is the co-producer of the award-winning The Sixth Section, which aired nationally on the Public Television series P.O.V. in 2003. It was supported by grants from the MacArthur Foundation and the Rockefeller Fund.
He has held writing residencies at Yaddo (New York) Foundation La Napoule (France), Rockefeller’s Bellagio Center (Italy) and at Fundacion Valparaiso (Spain.)
Through his production company Quiet Pictures, he is completing a one-hour film on the life of Roberto Clemente for PBS’s award-winning history series, American Experience. The film will be broadcast April 21st, 2008.
