In the midst of the African American civil rights struggle, protests to end the Vietnam War and the women’s movement for equality, Puerto Rican and Latino communities fought for the empowerment of their communities. From Chicago streets to the barrios of New York City and other urban centers, young Latinos and Latinas organized the Young Lords in the 1960s and 70s as a militant voice demanding social, economic and political justice for Puerto Ricans, Latino/as and all poor people.
¡PALANTE, SIEMPRE PALANTE! The Young Lords focuses on the organization’s activities in New York City. Through on-camera interviews with former members, archival footage, photographs and music, the documentary surveys Puerto Rican history, the Young Lords' activities and philosophy, the organization’s end and its legacy.
¡PALANTE, SIEMPRE PALANTE! The Young Lords was broadcast on national public television as part of POV/Point of View, The American Documentary Series and has been exhibited at film festivals and community screenings across the United States and the Caribbean.
