Born in Havana in 1944, Fernando Pérez studied Spanish Language and Literature at the University of Havana. After making a dozen documentaries and a number of news spots for ICAIC, Pérez completed his first feature, Clandestinos, in 1988. His career as a director and screenwriter spans four decades and boasts many awards from Cuba and abroad. Aside from his track record of 20 films, both narrative and documentary, Pérez is also the author of the book Corresponsales de Guerra, winner of the Premio Casa de las Americas.
